HairPeace in Concert!
September 12th 6:00pm
Welcome to Autumn!! Come
celebrate HairPeace harmonies floating in the Vero Beach breezes. A major
part of our monthly music series, these favorite performers will bring the
festivities, songs, sing-a-longs and sunshine to brighten up the onset of
Fall. We are planning on another successful outdoor concert/picnic to
celebrate the change of season.
So, folks, young and old,
fans and newcomers, here’s your chance to be a part of a very special
happening event. Bring blankets, picnic baskets, friends and family and
prepare for an outstanding evening of fun, frolicking and fantastic music by
two of the most talented, harmonious entertainers Vero has to offer.
HairPeace’s original
approach to acoustic music encompasses folk, rock, blues, Americana and
original tunes. The amazing harmony between the talented Ray, Chrystine and
their audience is an awesome experience that envelopes listeners and has
them humming HairPeace tunes for days.
We are proud to feature
HairPeace as our local house band and most musically talented members of the
library family.
This free concert is able
to provide the community with excellent entertainment right in our own
backyard. Ever the crowd pleaser, HairPeace has become our hometown

NEW DOCS!! NEW SERIES!!

We have added a new DOM to our “Ask the
Doc" series, to increase awareness and give tips to a healthier lifestyle.
This free program meets in the IRC Library’s 2nd floor History
room on Tuesdays at 6pm.
Our newest addition, Doc Sherri D’Alessio
brings fun food facts for prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to
the second Tuesday of every month, starting June 10.
Emphasizing stress relief, Dr. Alex
Snodgress excels in muscular and skeletal disorders as our week three
doctor. He will pass on information about complete wellness for longevity.
See him on the third Tuesdays starting June 17 at 6pm.
All Docs are concerned with total body
health issues and are eager to pass on great information for longer,
healthier living. Each week features timely topics, question sessions and
tools to take home.

Adult Painting Class
This class is open to beginners and advanced adult students. Painting sessions are facilitated by award winning painter Maynie Thorne every Sunday at 1:00pm. Painting mediums include water color, acrylics and pastels. All interested budding artists are welcome to attend this informal, free class.
Adult Drawing & Sketching Class
Drawing and sketching sessions are held at 1:00pm Thursdays in the first floor Multimedia room. This class is open to all interested in the art of drawing and sketching, whether a beginner or more advanced student. Structured lessons are held each Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00pm, taught by experienced instructor, Mary Bennett, award winner and participant in Art Shows and Exhibitions throughout Florida.
This class is free of charge and open to adults and teens.
Quilting Classes for All Ages
The IRC Main Library presents a quilting program taught by Pat Lester. Ms. Lester is an accomplished quilter from the local area. A daytime class is offered on Mondays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, evening classes are offered Tuesdays at 5:30pm. Classes are free, ongoing and open to beginners as well as advanced quilters. New projects include reversible holiday placemats, Crazy Quilt Hearts and seasonal themes. A portable sewing machine is needed for classes.
Calligraphy Classes
New session of beginner Calligraphy classes
on Monday mornings at 10am, starting September 8, 2008 with instructor Nancy
Parker. Two hour classes lasting 8 weeks require registration and
confirmation. Supply list is available now.
Quilling
Classes will resume in the fall.
Adult Creative Writing & Poetry
The IRC Main Library offers Adult Creative Writing and Poetry on Monday evenings at a new time, 6pm. Facilitator, Paul Bagley is a published author and president of the Indian River Poetry Society. This group meets to discuss, critique and encourage budding writers interested in becoming published. Bring your imagination, your work and your writing tools. New members are always welcome.
Great Ideas Book Group
Great Ideas Book Group is now meeting at the IRC Main Library the last Thursday of each month at 6pm. The group welcomes new members to attend our lively group discussions in the Pelican Island room of the Library.
Led by Joel Nevins, MA, the group discusses classic literature excerpts from the ‘Great Books Foundation,’ along with contemporary short stories, poetry, novels and nonfiction essays. Ideal for people who work, there is minimal advanced reading involved.

Note regarding texts: we will use the 10th LONG Edition (1214 pages)
of The Norton Reader and the 6th LONG Edition (1738 pages) of
The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction. Both texts may be purchased new
or used from eBay, Amazon, or another source.
Chess Lessons
The IRC Main Library and the Chess Club are offering adults and youth of Vero Beach the opportunity to learn how to play chess. Classes will be taught by Jack Norris and Paul Bagley, Wednesdays at 1:30pm. Participants in the chess classes also meet for gaming every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon on. This is a free program.
Sign Language
We will offer two(2) classes on Thursdays. Mornings at 10am, and
evenings at 6pm. Classes are open to beginners and will last 6-8 weeks,
beginning September 4th. Team teachers are Lynda Allen and
Patricia Moody. Space is limited. Registration is Required.
Karate Classes
The IRC Main Library presents non-contact Beginner Karate classes every Tuesday at 4:00pm. These sessions
are taught by 7th degree blackbelt, Shihan Master Jon Cierri via classical Chinese/Okinawan Self-Defense designed for new students. This is a great family sport that improves concentration, balance, breathing and body tone.
Mr. Cierri was trained in Okinawa and has been teaching self-defense techniques for 40 years. This ongoing class is open to all men, women and children over the age of 8 with an accompanying adult. Wear comfortable clothing and join us for this free, family friendly class in the MultiMedia room.
Pilates Stretch and Tone Class
Classes meet each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5:30pm and focus on flexibility and core strength, Pilates is appropriate for all fitness levels. This class will incorporate Pilates matwork, stretching, dance movements and toning using light weights. Janice Broda brings more than twenty years of experience as an exercise instructor & holds Pilates certifications from dual programs.
Pilates is beneficial for mental & physical well-being, increasing circulation, strength, endurance and coordination. Pilates is the exercise of choice for dancers & gymnasts, improving posture, concentration, & control.
There is no charge for this weekly, ongoing class that meets in the Multimedia room. Bring a mat and small dumbbells for upper body work. Come join us for an amazing, workout class that will leave you smiling from head to toe.
Belly Dancing Class
The IRC Main Library presents Belly Dancing Classes on Sunday afternoons at 3:30pm. Open to beginners at any time, classes are ongoing and led by “Parizade,” Daughter of the Genii for all adults interested in the art of Belly Dancing.
Instructor, Lora Carch, better known as “Parizade,” is a world traveler, studying various techniques of the Oriental dance currently labeled Belly Dancing by modern society. Traditionally, this Middle Eastern folk dance was used to celebrate joyous family occasions. As well as being a healthy way to get a good work out, shake up circulation and improve general outlook, Belly Dancing provides a meditative aspect and spiritual connection as it did in ancient times.
This class is free, ongoing and open to all adults who want to participate in joyful social dancing. Located in the MultiMedia room; exercise clothing suggested.
Tai Chi
Nee hau means ‘hello’ in Chinese. The IRC Main Library is sponsoring a free class in Tai Chi. Our instructor, world traveler, Norman Goodman taught the Yang style of Tai Chi in China. These ongoing classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays at 4pm in the Multimedia room. The class begins with Qigong warm up, flowing through a sequence of movements to provide enhanced health and vitality to participants.
Benefits of Tai Chi include a boost in confidence, improved relaxation and increased focus. Wear comfortable clothing, come and enjoy a great class and “xie xie.”
Yoga
Summer Hours Only for Yoga: June 13th
through August 8th: Yoga classes every Friday at 1:00pm and each
Wednesday evening at 6:00pm with instructor, Babaji. Classes contain all levels
of Gentle Yoga, with emphasis on breathing and stretching. Free, ongoing
classes, open to all interested. Participants in the class will need to wear loose-fitting clothing
and bring a yoga mat.
Better Breathing
A breathing class follows Yoga at at 2:30 on Fridays for the summer. Better Breathing focuses on deep breathing
techniques, balance and stress release. Perfect for those returning to exercise, beginners or rehabilitation participants.
Zumba
Starting September 4th every Thursday at 5:30pm, we will
be dancing in the Library MultiMedia room. Dance instructor, Teresa will offer
hypnotic Latin rhythms for a dynamic work out that will blow you away.
