Virtual Reality Demos featuring the HTC Vive

Wednesday, February 22nd - Brackett Library
Tuesday, March 28th - North IRC Library
Wednesday, April 26th - Brackett Library

Demos scheduled from 3:00pm to 7:20pm (20 minutes each)

Ever wanted to climb a mountain, hang out on a reef full of fish or be ninja all without ever leaving the library? Now you can with the library's new virtual reality system.

Third grade through college age students only are being given this special opportunity to register for a 20 minute session to experience the Vive VR System. Pre-registration is required and you will be assigned a specific play-time. Please arrive at least fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled time or your session will be forfeited. Spectators are welcome, but pre-registration is REQUIRED to play.

To register, contact Patti Fuchs at pfuchs@irclibrary.org or call 772-770-5060 x4132. In an effort to give everyone a chance at this new experience we will be giving preference to people who haven't gotten to try VR before when scheduling the demos.

Why VR? It's new, it's unique and VR is something that's difficult for people to experience at home (for now). Why Vive? Most people have the biggest reaction when they are able to move around, touch and interact with the virtual world in a natural way.

Strangled Darlings Concert
January 29th, 2017 at 2:00pm @ IRC Main Library

At 2:00pm on Sunday, January 29th the Strangled Darlings arrive at the Main Library. A uniquely entertaining duo, they have created a brand of swampy, grooving, foot stomping music that stays with you for days. Both Jessica and George Veech display expert songwriting and exquisite musicianship, with edgy beats and flowing melodies. Modern creations of Folk-Pop music mix with Indie-Classical stylings to highlight a new genre that makes a statement. From their banjo-blazing, mandolin-strumming keen sense of lyricism, the duo brings together blues and bluegrass.

Come witness Jessica's intense vocals, cello and bass paired with George's rugged vocals, manolin and harmonica. Blending old and new the two make awe-inspiring, captivating, magical music with a modern sound.

Don't miss this buried treasure!

Friction Farm Concert @ IRC Main Library
Thursday, February 2nd at 6:00pm

Presenting harmony and hope for today. Modern folk duo Friction Farm is bringing both to the Main Library on Thursday, February 2nd, at 6:00pm. Friction Farm is guitarist/vocalist Aidan Quinn and bassist/vocalist Christine Stay. They are avid readers who decided to turn that into a project, discussing a book, seeing where the story would take them, and writing a song. It was fun and frustrating, invigorating and exhausting, but always interesting.

Blending country, folk and pop they bring a rare freshness and spontaneity to the stage. Kerrville New Folk finalists, they bring charm, energy, sheer talent and outstanding songwriting that is funny, poignant and spontaneous.

Be prepared to share in the fun with audience participation, great music and a uniquily entertaining experience.

Call Marla at 772-770-5060 x4121 for more information.
