The Brackett Library branch is a joint-use facility located in the Mueller Campus of the Indian River State College in Vero Beach. Our collection consists of over 270,000 items including: books, magazines, newspapers, microfilm, CDs, books on tape, DVDs, video tapes and more. We also provide access to the Internet and many PCs loaded with software dedicated to helping you in your research.


News and Upcoming Special Events:


Veterans Display @ IRC Main Library
Thursday, May 19th until June 8th


The Indian River County Main Library will be honoring our Veterans by having a special display. The showcase will run from Thursday, May 19th until June 8th. The display will feature photographs, patriotic banners, uniforms representing all five branches of the military as well as their seals. Personal memorabilia from WWI and WWII will also be on display and much more.



These items have been provided by the Victory Center Military Store located in the Indian River Mall, the Veterans Council of Indian River County, individual Veterans and loyal patrons. Come check out the display and then stop by and visit the Victory Veterans Center, they are always looking for volunteers.

5k Run/Walk Race Summer Reading Kick-Off!

Saturday, June 11th, 2016

  • Time: 7:00am to 11:00am, Race begins at 8:00am SHARP

  • Location: Brackett Library, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach

  • Purpose: To kick–off the 2016 Summer Library Reading Program and encourage families of all ages and experience levels (from elite runners to beginner walkers) to get outside, have fun and share new experiences.

  • Hosts: The Indian River County Library System, Friends of the Indian River County Library, and our proud sponsors.

  • Race Management: This will be a timed and chipped event managed by Runners Depot of Vero Beach. There will be medals for the top three placings for males and females, in ten different age categories. Registration: Participants (of all ages) in the 5K can register at Runner’s Depot or at any branch of the IRC Library System at anytime up to June 8th OR on the morning of the event at the Brackett Library between 7:00am and 7:30am.

  • Packet Pick-up: Participants can pick up their number and chip at the Brackett Library Friday, June 10th from 9:00AM to 5:00PM or the morning of the race starting at 7:00AM

  • Cost: FREE! This event is being offered to the public free of charge through the efforts of the Friends of the Indian River County Main Library and our sponsors. We would like families across IRC to be a part of this event and do not want costs to be a limiting factor.

  • Never participated in a 5K before?

    Starting May 3rd, runners and walkers of all ages will meet at the Indian River County Fair-grounds to practice in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00pm bring the whole family to walk/jog/run as we prepare ourselves for the big event on June 11th. This is also free and no registration is required. Join us!

    8th Annual Teen Art Show @ North IRC Library
    June 1st - June 30th
    Open to all 12 - 18 year olds. We want to see your artwork!


    The 8th annual Teen Art Show will be held from June 1st through June 30th at the North IRC Library. All artists from 12 to 18 years old are encouraged to share their artwork with the world.

    A first prize and runner-up prize will be awarded for each age group: 12-14 years and 15-18 years old.

    All artwork must be a current original interpretation of the artist and reflect the theme of:



    Artwork must have been created after January 2016 to be accepted. Please see the full rules and registration form here.

    Let's Go To School! @ IRC Main Library
    Thursdays: 6:00pm - 7:00pm, June 11th - August 5th


    Children entering kindergarten this August (ONLY) and their caregivers are invited to attend this weekly program designed to prepare their child for their first day.

    Topics will include the basics such as letters and numbers, but also important skills such as sharing, how to line up, raise our hands and other social/school skills. Childcare for older/younger siblings will be provided as siblings may NOT attend the program.

    Attendance will be rewarded with free school supplies AND raffle prizes!

    Registration is required. You can download the registration form here submit it to any of the IRC Libraries.

    Never-Ending Storybook Project @ IRC Main Library

    Due to popular demand we have added three new characters to our Never Ending Storybook. In addition to Gorilla Ice, Kaia, and Gidget, we now have Lily, McGrath, and Maxwell.

    Elementary aged children can participate by checking out one of the six Character Bags. Each bag includes one stuffed character and profile along with a copy of the story and the materials needed to create your own page for the storybook.

    Children are asked to continue the story in one or two paragraphs, take a photo or draw a picture of their character and return their addition to the book, as well as the rest of the packet to the IRC Main Library within two weeks.

    Adopt-A-Shelf Program
