When periodicals are received as a donation or a subscription, they are checked for back issues on the shelf.

If any volumes are complete, the library sends them to the bindery. The bound issues are then considered "books" and placed on the shelves according to their Dewey Decimal classification. Example:

Unbound or incomplete volumes will be found in the black periodical boxes next to the bound issues.

Many periodicals are too small or incomplete to be cataloged and put on the shelf. These can be found in the vertical files.

We receive periodicals in one of four ways:
